About SaaS Outpost
SaaS Outpost tracks software products after launch: whether each one is still online, and how its pricing changes over time.
Where the products come from
Products enter the index from public launch announcements: Show HN posts, found through the public HN Search API, and products submitted to us directly. From each announcement we keep only facts: the product's address and the launch date. Each product page links back to its original announcement. Descriptions and categories are written from the product's own website.
Our indexer
If you saw SaaS Outpost indexer (+https://saasoutpost.com/about) in your logs, that is us. It is a plain HTTP client, not a browser. It:
- fetches a product's homepage about once a day, and its pricing page about once a week
- makes at most one request to a domain every few seconds
- respects robots.txt for anything beyond the homepage
- gives up after about 15 seconds
How status is decided
A product is never marked as down from a single failed check. A site that fails a few checks in a row is shown as degraded. It is only marked dead when its domain no longer resolves, it shows a parked or for-sale page, or it has failed every daily check for at least seven days. Every status change is recorded with its date.
Is your product listed wrongly?
Makers will be able to claim a listing to correct details or dispute a status. Until then, email us at info@saasoutpost.com.
